30 Days of Thanks, Deer Season, and other fun things

It's November, right?  Which means for most people that I know two very important things are about to occur...Thanksgiving and Deer Season!  I have been attempting to participate in something I like to call 30 Days of Thanks (I have no idea if it has been officially named this, or not).  The purpose is, every day during the month of November you publicly profess something that you are thankful for.  And yes, I realize you are supposed to be thankful every day, not just because it is November.  But, if you spend 30 days straight naming something different that you are thankful for, you begin to really see how blessed we are.  It starts out easy...Day 1: I am thankful for my husband.  He works hard to provide for me, and loves me unconditionally.  Day 2:  I am thankful for my parents.  They sacrificed so much to make our lives good, showed us Jesus, and so many other things.  (You get the picture, right?)  After a few days, and running through the list of important people in your life, you (if you're like me) have to start really thinking about things you are thankful for.  Day 9:  I am thankful for the ability to hear and see.  Day 12:  I am thankful for healthy legs and feet.  How often we take for granted that we are able to stand and walk off at will.

However, in the midst of all this public profession of thanks, I have been dying to exclaim the biggest thing I am thankful for at this moment (next to salvation, of course).  But since my dear husband absolutely despises the social networking site which I find myself spending so much time checking, just to see what everyone else I know is doing, even though I could call most of them and find out just as quick, I have had to restrain myself.  (Wow that was quite a run-on sentence!) TRUST ME:  This is not always an easy task.  I'm not sure why he insists that this information cannot be shared on the aforementioned site, because I'm pretty sure our mothers have already told every man, woman or child who would stop long enough to listen.  But, I respect my husband and try to respect his wishes.  So, here is my way of publicly professing without going against his wishes.

Remember Day 9, mentioned above?  What I REALLY wanted to say was this:  Today I am thankful for the sound of 163 beats per minute, the most amazing sound I have ever heard...EVER!  November 9th was the day I first heard the sounds of the 12 week old baby growing inside me.  That's right, folks, Rachel and P.J. are having a baby...finally.  We are so excited...and so nervous...and so many other things it is impossible to say.  We would appreciate the prayers of anyone willing to whisper a word on our behalf.  Just a couple more days and the first trimester will be officially over.

In other big news, tomorrow morning is the opening morning of "modern gun deer season" in our area.  If you've ever tried to get around our small county on the Friday before deer season, you know why this is big news.  I'm not sure where all these people come from, or where exactly they are headed, but they all have an apparent need to travel the same road at the same time to get there.  Fortunately for us, deer camp is less than 5 miles away.  And you spend the entire trip "off the beaten path" so there is not much worry over the traffic.  Now me getting home from work this afternoon will be a different story.  Oh, no, and I have to go to Wal-Mart too!  Whisper a prayer for that, too!

Until next time...
